Frequently Asked Questions

I think trauma is a seriously misunderstood term. For many of us, it conjures up images of horrific violence or abuse, and we expect it to show itself in these dramatic ways. We tend to associate it as something that ‘happens to other people’. And for this reason, many of us don’t identify with the term, or think of our own experiences as traumatic.

And this is dangerous. Because if we can’t recognise our trauma, it’s impossible to release it and to actively heal from it. That’s why I’m on a mission to change how we think and talk about trauma.

At its core, trauma comes from pain and suffering. It may originate from one incident, a combination of different influences, or exposure to certain events, language or behaviours over time. But it always comes from those experiences that have shaped our most limiting beliefs about ourselves.

So many of these experiences tend to happen in childhood. That’s because we are at our most formative. Our identity, our worldview, whether we feel loved, what we have to fear – all of this starts when we are only small children, vulnerable and easily influenced by the experiences we have and the people we encounter. And this also means that we often forget or bury the root cause of our traumas – those first experiences that shaped us.

As adults, we might leave behind the memory, but we carry the energy of it within us and it stays unresolved. That’s why it’s so important to return to childhood experiences when we are treating trauma. When you’re able to make connections between your past and your present, you’re actually able to hold those painful experiences up to the light and release them, years or decades after they occurred.

I speak to a lot of women who struggle to identify with the term ‘trauma’. And I think this comes down to how we are conditioned. As women, we’re always questioning the legitimacy of our own pain. We’re taught to minimise our struggle and we tell ourselves ‘Who am I to feel this way / People have it way worse than me / I should be able to handle this on my own.’

I call this ‘comparative trauma’; a constant game of comparison where you measure your own pain against someone else’s. And it’s so dangerous because you use that to decide whether you have a ‘legitimate’ reason to be suffering, and whether you deserve healing.

This is NOT ok! Trauma shows up differently for different people. For some, it might look like what we call ‘Big T’ trauma; severe abuse, violence or neglect. For others, it might look like lack of love, rejection from a parent, a destructive relationship, a bullying incident, or failed expectations. Sometimes, it only takes one incident to experience trauma, and other times, a person may have been living with some degree of pain for decades.

Regardless of what your trauma looks like, you deserve the chance to heal. And working with a healing practitioner can support you to recognise and release that suffering. Whether you’re experiencing physical or emotional pain, persistent anxiety, or uncontrollable fear, anger and shame, here’s what you need to know. There is nothing wrong with you. You’re not broken and you can feel better. It’s about taking that first step and seeking the help you need.

Most women who come to me feel like they’ve tried everything, from conventional therapy to affirmations. But they still find themselves stuck, and change never seems to last. If this sounds familiar, know that there is nothing wrong with you!

The reason that so many traditional talk therapies fail us is because they force us to continually talk through our traumas and relive it in an attempt to desensitise us. As we do this, we confront the pain of it over and over again…but we don’t find any relief and the emotions simply become further compounded within your body. This is because we aren’t actually RELEASING the emotional pain that is attached to our memories of trauma. It’s still held within our brains and bodies, which means it still has power over us.

I liken it to trying to grow crops in a desert. You can sow the most beautiful seeds, but if the earth is burnt and barren, they won’t take. Healing is just like that. Without releasing emotional pain, there is no room for anything else to flourish – it’s like you’re at capacity, and all the positive affirmations, books or yoga poses in the world can’t reach beyond the surface. If you’re holding onto old pain, how can you possibly heal?

With EFT and shamanic healing, we treat all dimensions of that pain; the physical, the mental, the emotional and the spiritual. We slowly peel back layers to find those first formative experiences and we neutralise and clear away the emotion that still clings to them. It’s only then that new, positive energy can begin to flow. True freedom comes from releasing our traumas.

You are definitely not alone – this is a very common concern. When you are so used to ignoring your pain, talking about it can feel impossibly hard and vulnerable. You may not know where to start, or how to articulate ‘what’s wrong’ or the causes for the pain you’re experiencing.

This is even more complicated when you’ve experienced a severe trauma. You may be scared that a session may ’trigger’ you, feel an immense amount of shame or confusion about something that happened to you, or a debilitating sense of guilt about what you may have done to survive painful times. This is a completely normal response, and it might mean you resist speaking about certain experiences. More complicated still, many people with childhood trauma have often repressed it to a point where they no longer recall it. You might wonder how you can possibly ‘heal’ your trauma if you don’t recognise it on a conscious level or know how to talk about it.

While these are all valid concerns, you will still be able to participate in a healing session and receive all its benefits. This is because EFT and shamanic healing don’t rely on us ‘talking’ about our traumas. Unlike conventional talk therapy, these modalities access trauma and emotional pain in a much more holistic way, using techniques that incorporate the physical body. For example, ‘tapping’ is a totally non-invasive way to identify traumatic memories, and clear the emotional pain attached to them. While EFT healing sessions involve talking, you don’t need to make direct reference to an ‘incident’ for it to work. You also don’t need to have a practitioner touch you – I hold a lot of sessions via Skype, and verbally guide my client to ‘tap’ on different meridian points. This ‘remote’ option allows you to be in the comfort and safety of your own home, which can help to ease potential anxiety or nerves.

Many women are scared to go to a healing session because they feel like it might go ‘too deep, too quick’. After years of repressing a traumatic experience, they fear what would happen if it were to all of a sudden come to the surface.

I understand this, and that’s why my approach to healing is like peeling back an onion. Think of it this way. You’ve built up layers of experience, behaviours and beliefs over time. If we are going to get back to the root cause of your trauma, we have to peel back these layers one at a time and neutralise the pain as we go. It’s not about ripping off a bandaid or exposing this wound, it’s about slowly making connections between how you feel today and what’s happened to you in the past. We only move forward at the pace the slowest part of you is prepared to go, so that you are in control of your own healing.

Another reason you might feel apprehensive about a healing session is because you’re scared of judgement. This is a natural response when you’re sharing something so vulnerable with someone, especially if you don’t know them well. But that is NOT something you need to worry about when working with me. It’s my responsibility to create a safe, intimate and non-judgemental space where you can open yourself up without fear. I believe that every woman deserves to be treated with respect and integrity, and I hold space for you to be 100% yourself, secure in the knowledge that you are completely enough, exactly as you are.

We’re told we have to be perfect to be loved. As women, we hold ourselves to these impossible standards, and it means we’re never allowed to fail, to show weakness, to reveal part of ourselves that we aren’t proud of. But to heal, we have to tell the truth without judgement, and step into vulnerability with a sense of genuine self-forgiveness and compassion. I am committed to helping women do exactly that.

In my work, I primarily focus on Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and healing using shamanic techniques. I am trained in both modalities, as well as drawing on diverse disciplines like neuro-linguistic programming, counselling and life coaching.

Our problems are sometimes buried deep, and so we need healing that goes just as deep. EFT and shamanic healing is so powerful because they go beyond the surface, and tap into the emotional, physical, mental and spiritual dimensions of our pain.

The short answer? Everyone. I honestly believe that every single person can benefit from a healing session. We all carry unresolved pain with us. Whether we know it or not, this pain may be keeping us stuck in destructive patterns of behaviour, damaging our self-worth, causing us anxiety, stress or physical disease, or pushing us towards unhealthy coping mechanisms. When you’re able to identify the root cause of this pain, you’re finally able to release it. That is true freedom!

A healing session is a deeply personal thing; what you feel and experience won’t be the same as someone else. Together, we’ll get to the root causes of any pain you’re experiencing and clear it away, so that there’s room for new possibility and positive energy to flow.

Some people ask whether I exclusively work with women. My business is certainly centred around the feminine, because I am fiercely passionate about women feeling free and worthy of the self-discovery that is their birthright. I first came to this work because I believe that a healing woman is a powerful force, with the potential to change the world.

But here’s something I also know to be true. No gender has the monopoly on suffering – men experience trauma, as women do. And that unresolved emotional pain harms everyone; not only the individual themselves, but all those around them. For this reason, I believe that there is so much power in a man who is willing to acknowledge their suffering, and to heal from it. Any man can benefit from EFT or shamanic healing, and they are absolutely welcome to book in a session with me.

Yes, absolutely! I actually have many male clients.

My passion is women because of my connection to my mother and seeing her suffer (as well as experiencing her suffering firsthand). But I’m actually passionate about helping anyone that is in pain and feels lost and out of control in today’s world.

Depending on the issue will depend on how I go about working with children.

In a lot of cases I would advise an initial session working with either mum or dad first to establish the energy and environment within the family unit. Stress, worry, grief, fear – any ‘negative’ emotion that is affecting a parent can be picked up on and transferred over to children without it being noticed. (For more information click here).

From there, if it’s necessary, a session can be booked in to work 1:1 with the child or children in question.

This might seem a strange approach but children are much more sensitive to our energy than we realise and give them credit for. If mum and dad are relaxed and at peace then children feed off of that.

I am happy to discuss this in further detail if you feel your child or children could use some support.

As a healer, I am trusted to work with people at their most vulnerable, and I take this responsibility extremely seriously. Because of this, I have dedicated myself to intensive and ongoing training and personal development across many disciplines and modalities. I am always seeking out ways to deepen my knowledge, and master and integrate different techniques into my healing practice.

I am an advanced EFT International accredited and certified EFT Practitioner (level 3). I am also a healer trained in shamanic techniques, a certified matrix reimprinting practitioner, a reiki master, an NLP practitioner, an Access Bars practitioner and a New Insights life coach. My work draws upon neuro-linguistic programming, coaching, counselling and a variety of ancient and contemporary healing modalities.

There is no ‘typical’ session, because each is guided by the unique needs of my client. My approach is to always ‘meet you where you are’. Whether you’re at the very beginning of your healing journey, or nervous to speak about certain experiences, I understand that this can feel incredibly vulnerable and requires great courage on your part. That’s why I am committed to creating a mutually safe space, based around self-forgiveness and acceptance. I can guarantee that you will never feel judged or pushed beyond your limits. I am there as a guide, to help you explore, ask questions and seek answers, but you are always in control of your own healing.

I will always communicate with you and ask your permission before using any technique. There are so many ways that we can respect your boundaries, while still working towards releasing any pain you’re experiencing. If you are fearful of being ‘triggered’ by speaking a certain experience out loud, we can explore various techniques that require no communication from you. In every circumstance, you have the power to decide how you want the healing session to progress.

EFT is a completely painless and non-invasive treatment. Your body may ‘release’ in some form, during or after the session – perhaps yawning, hiccuping, burping, or even needing to pee more than usual. These are completely natural side-effects, and indicate that your body is slowing letting go. You may feel slightly light-headed immediately after a session; if this is the case, I am able to support you until you feel grounded and ready to move.

Information you share is never disclosed to anyone, unless required by a court of law or in cases where I fear there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others. I will always do everything I can to make sure you are safe and will discuss your options with you, without judgement or expectation.

I have seen countless clients experience some level of immediate relief after a session. They report feeling:

  • calm and grounded
  • positive, clear-minded and energetic
  • physically lighter as if a weight has been lifted
  • far less anxious, with fewer negative thoughts
  • free from persistent physical pain, without resorting to traditional medical treatments

But it’s important to remember that there is no universal experience or guaranteed result. Especially in cases of severe or long-repressed trauma, it’s natural that you may need more time to process and clear your pain, until you can experience long-term benefits.

Instead of prescribing a particular timeframe and applying unnecessary pressure, we work at a pace and intensity that feels good for you.

You can read the results other women have experienced here.

We can work together in three ways:

  1. We can hold your session at my home in Maryborough, in a spacious, private and comfortable treatment room.
I will arrange directions via email upon booking and if you are using public transport, I can always assist you with a pick-up and drop-off service (no charge!)
  2. We can hold our session via Zoom or Skype or a similar video-sharing service. This is an excellent option if you aren’t local to the area or if you feel more comfortable doing this work within the privacy and familiarity of your own home. This is particularly powerful when you feel apprehensive and nervous about sharing very private, potentially traumatic memories and emotions.

  1. In the case of shamanic healing, it’s also possible to complete what’s known as ‘distance healing’. The key difference between this and a typical 1:1 session is that I can employ shamanic techniques without us sharing a physical or virtual space together. Because shamanic healing relies on energy alone, physical proximity or face-to-face contact isn’t a prerequisite. I am able to tap into your energy frequency from wherever we both are, and ‘extract’ or clear energy blockages just as I would in person.

That being said, the healing experience depends on a two-way, and consensual flow of energy. That’s why we will still pre-arrange a time/duration, just as we would in a face-to-face session, because it requires each of us to be open and present to the healing process as it unfolds in real-time. If this is something that you’re curious to learn more about, don’t hesitate to contact me and ask any questions you may have.
